Eminem Admits He Went ‘Too Far’ by Calling Tyler, the Creator a Homophobic Slur on ‘Kamikaze’

In the third part of his interview with Sway, Eminem admitted that his Tyler, the Creator diss went too far. On the Kamikaze track, “Fall,” Em rapped, “Tyler create nothin’, I see why you called yourself a f—–, bitch.”

“I think the word that I called him on that song was one of the things where I felt like this might be too far,” he said in the video below. “Because in my quest to hurt him, I realize that I was hurting a lot of other people by saying it. … It was one of the things that I kept going back to and going, ‘I don’t feel right with this.’”

Eminem said that the diss was prompted when Tyler and Earl Sweatshirt of Odd Future criticized his work. “If you still follow Eminem, you drink way too much Mountain Dew,” Earl Sweatshirt tweeted about Eminem’s 2014 Shady Records compilation, Shady XV.

“I was like, really? What the fuck,” Eminem said. “You guys were just on tour with us, we hung out, we kicked it, made jokes.”

He said his “breaking point” came when Tyler bashed his Beyoncé collaboration, “Walk on Water,” which was featured on Revival. Tyler certainly wasn’t the only person who found the album lackluster. It was widely panned by critics, the most famous of which got name-dropped on Eminem’s Kamikaze.

Em immediately caught backlash for the use of the word, including from Justin Vernon of the band Bon Iver, who is featured on “Fall.”

“Was not in the studio for the Eminem track… came from a session with BJ Burton and Mike Will. Not a fan of the message, it’s tired,” Vernon tweeted. “Asked them to change the track, wouldn’t do it. Thanks for listening to BRM.” He later stated, “We are gonna kill this track.”

This is the third installment of Eminem’s sit-down with Sway. He’s previously discussed everything from Slaughterhouse‘s phantom record, Glass House (don’t hold your breath) to his beef with Machine Gun Kelly, though he says he hasn’t decided whether or not to respond in the form of another diss record.
