So it looks like Joe Budden wasn’t feeling Chance The Rapper‘s recent late night performance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. During a recent episode of Complex’s new talk show, Everyday Struggle, the rapper/commentator went in on the Chicago rapper for his new Daniel Caesar-assisted cut “First World Problems” and the way he performed it.
“What the fuck is Chance doing?” Joe says in the episode, all while laughing hysterically at the footage. “What is this style of music? Is this polk music? What the fuck are these two niggas doing? It’s too positive,” Ouch.
Budden, who was recently dissed by Zoey Dollaz, continues to go in by mimicking the subdued, whisper-like delivery Chano employed during the performance, while also saying Chance should get closer to some of the more aggressive styles of his fellow Chicagoans. “That nigga better go back to Chicago,” says Budden. “I want a G Herbo feature. This is too positive. It’s too positive, sorry.”
Whether or not Budden was serious, Chano didn’t seem to be too bothered. In an interview with Robyn Neal, he chocks Budden’s comments up to his role as a talk show host. “There’s this idea that things have to make things for the culture and push the culture forward and it’s like, nigga I am the culture,” says Chano, who recently landed on Forbes’ list of highest-earning rappers.
He continues, “Whatever decisions I made, they’re made, and I also fuck with Joe Budden, I know he has to do his thing. He has a talk show now but before he was an artist and he got to do whatever he wanted. Now he has to go to his job and clock in and clock out and provide his insight. Niggas gotta do what they gotta do.”
