As of now, authorities haven’t determined a motive for the killing of Fret, who had been an LGBT advocate before his death. The Puerto Rico Trans Youth Coalition said his murder could be called a hate crime.
Before his death, Fret was a star on the rise. His latest video, one for the song “Soy Así,” has garnered over 700,000 views on YodIn a statement (via Inside Edition), Fret’s manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, described the artist as a “big-hearted dreamer” and an “artistic soul.”
“His passion was music, and he still had a lot left to do. This violence should stop. There are no words to describe our emotions and the pain that it causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go,” Rodriguez said.
